Let's answer some queries we get regularly

We get asked some frequent questions from our clients. Let’s see if we are a fit.

  • How can we start a project together?

Good question! We're people people, we like to chat on the phone or face to face. The first step would be to give us a call or send us an email. We usually start projects with a discovery call, followed by an exploration phase where we will work closely with you to determine the scope and services we can offer. After that, we'll proceed to drafting a project proposal. Once you're happy we will then prepare a statement of work and schedule project kickoff agreements. After a deposit payment, we get to work!

  • How much does a project cost?

Unfortunately, we don't have set project prices. The best way to understand how much your project might cost is to get in touch with our team who will help you scope out the project and provide you with the best approach. We offer our clients a number of different dynamic billing structures, including fixed project fees, hourly rates, and monthly retainers for both design and development services.

  • What information do you need to provide a proposal?

We're focused on providing a client-first process, so we'd always suggest you get in touch with our team first so we can chat over your business needs and put you in touch with our technical team to get as much information from you as possible. If you have a spare 15 minutes, complete this project-brief to help you come prepared!

  • What size of companies do you work with?

Our portfolio of clients includes a wide range of business sizes; sole traders, start ups, SMEs and global brands. We love to develop digital solutions for the problems that are challenging in today’s markets and can work on any scale to achieve that for your business.

  • Do you work internationally?

Yes! We may be based in Northern Ireland, but we have worked on projects across Europe and the US. Surely after the Covid-19 situation, we can all agree that remote works.

  • Will my project get your full capacity?

We offer a full-team approach to most projects. That means your project will have exposure to multiple skill-sets and expertise ranging from design and development to business and commercial expertise. We’re a team and work as one to deliver projects to the best of their potential.

  • What after-care support will my project receive?

All projects are different and require unique aftercare support packages. We’ve simplified our support packages by offering a simple, single support package that allows access to our team for any service for an agreed X hours per month. In addition to that, you receive your own personalised Myth Hub login to manage support needs and chat with our team. We’ve outlined this in full over on our support page.

At Myth we focus on market leading design and reliable functionality. Our in-house team of experts deliver quality across software, apps, websites and e-commerce with a particular concern for strong UX and UI Design - and we have a great time doing it.

  • We have a limited budget, will you still work with us?

Vision and culture are very important to us. We want to work with clients that have the same vision as ourselves. To explore if your project is possible, we’ll always ask for your budget. However if your budget doesn’t match your vision, we’ll always try to see what is possible within your budget. We can attempt to phase your project into steps that work in line with your most critical needs first. We’ve written an article all about the subject of budgets which you can read here.

  • Can we come to your office and meet in person?

Of course - all welcome! We’ll have the kettle on. We are also happy to meet over video call or we can come to you.

  • Will my project work across all devices including mobile and tablets?

Of course! We live in a world where more and more people are accessing everything from the palm of their hand. All projects we deliver (unless otherwise stated for unique reasons) will work across all devices covering mobile, tablet and desktop.

  • Do you host websites or will I need to provide my own hosting?

We provide a full-service offering. Our team is experienced in hosting websites and eCommerce stores to best practice using multiple secure environments for testing and staging. We use a secure, scalable approach to web hosting and provide multiple packages for clients as part of their project deliverables. Alternatively, you’re free to host your website or eCommerce store on your own server, providing it meets the minimum project requirements.

  • Will I need a Shopify or Craft Commerce project?

The best way for us to answer this one is to chat with our ecommerce experts. We get this question all of the time and depending on the project, every answer is unique. When deciding Shopify or something more custom like Craft Commerce, the questions we usually ask are centred around budget, timeframes, volume, scalability and infrastructure. It’s not something that we can answer here, but get in touch and ask us.

  • Which payment gateways do you support?

We prefer Stripe, but we can use any gateway that you need for your store. Custom solutions like Craft Commerce offer a range of gateway support out-of-the-box. If yours isn’t supported by default, don’t worry as we’ve built several gateways custom and know what to expect. As long as your gateway has an API, we can integrate whatever you need.

  • Can I integrate my current systems into my online store?

Yes! That’s our speciality. We’re a software driven team, which means that we look for integrated solutions that can streamline your business processes and order fulfilment. Whether you use Xero or Sage for accounting and DHL or a local delivery firm for parcel fulfilment. We have vast experience working with global company APIs and local companies with basic IT infrastructure. We’ll always find a solution that fits your needs.

  • How long will it take to build my store?

That depends on the complexity of the project. We follow a bespoke eCommerce design and development process that we know takes a minimum amount of time. Depending on your custom requirements, there is no estimate that fits all projects. As a guideline, most custom online stores take a minimum of 8 weeks. Shopify stores take less time at a minimum of 4 weeks.

  • Is custom software right for my business?

We can help you decide. There are lots of different scenarios that make custom a great option for businesses. Some clients have accumulated several subscription services and their processes have become detached and they are ready for something custom, some need a custom solution for a specific area of their business i.e. HR, operations etc. We can help you decipher how to get as much value as possible from a custom solution.

  • What can custom software do for my team?

So much! From managing staff absence, payroll, task management, improving information flow and storage as well as improving efficiency the sky really is the limit when it comes to custom. Of course not every business needs or wants every function imaginable. We can help you work out the sweet spot where you can get most value out of custom elements.

  • Can custom software help my business grow?

Due to the bespoke nature of custom software it can be adopted as part of a growth strategy in stages or implemented early to free up time or resources to redirect towards business development activity. Having a robust system in place that can handle higher traffic coming through the business can make business growth more manageable and a growth sprint more sustainable.

  • What development stack do you use?

Our team has vast experience with multiple languages and frameworks. After years of experience, we’ve settled on two core stacks that we use for projects. We use .NET Core or Laravel for back-end development and either Vue or React for front-end development. Our choice of development stacks have been chosen based on best practice in today’s development world. We’re always growing and evolving our development stack to ensure all projects we deliver are scalable and future-proof for what might come next.

  • Can I purchase my own domain?

Yes. We recommend clients always do this. We can assist you with purchasing and setting things up.

  • Do you redesign existing websites?

Yes. We love to redesign existing websites. We follow a unique pre-project research and planning process that consists of reviewing your previous website analytics data and any other available data to optimise and improve on what your previous website didn’t do right, but also what it did do right.

  • How long will it take for you to build my website?

That depends on the complexity of the project. We follow a bespoke web design and development process that we know takes a minimum amount of time. Depending on your custom requirements, there is no estimate that fits all projects. As a guideline, most standard websites take a minimum of 4 weeks. If you’re looking for a custom web application, that’s usually 8 weeks minimum and can range anywhere up to 6-12 months – depending on complexity.

  • What is the difference between Hybrid and Native apps?

A hybrid mobile application is an app that works on both iOS and Android but uses one single codebase that gets compiled into the languages that both iOS and Android support. In other words, a hybrid app will support any mobile operating system and will only need to be developed once. We’ve written an article about this, you can read more on this subject here.

  • Will I need a hybrid or native app?

The best way for us to answer this question is to chat with our mobile app experts. As mentioned above, we usually recommend hybrid apps. After all, they work for Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and many other globally used mobile apps. We do this because it makes the most sense both financially and technically. We could charge fees twice to develop for you an app for iOS and an app for Android. We could also charge you the same fees twice for after-care and development for new features, but we don’t think that you need to pay that or more importantly should pay that.

There are valid exceptions to the above for some projects that require a completely native app for iOS or/and a native app for Android for either technical or business reasons. In order for us to identify what you need, we need to understand your project and requirements. Give us a call and we’ll help you with that.

  • What is the difference between React Native and Ionic apps?

Our team has experience working with multiple market leading hybrid frameworks. We suggest you read more about the different mobile app hybrid frameworks here. In short, the major differences between the two frameworks we use is a) time-to-develop and b) performance. Ionic has a much quicker time-to-develop based on it having a more “web-like” approach. Which keeps your costs down and time to market quicker. React Native however, offers a more native like approach to mobile app development along with a performance boost. It may take longer and cost more, but offers a more superior mobile app experience. When deciding React Native or Ionic, the questions we usually ask are centred around budget, timeframes, business requirements and technical requirements. It’s not something that we can answer here, but get in touch and ask us!

  • How long will it take for you to build my app?

That depends on the complexity of the project and whether you are developing hybrid or native. We follow a bespoke software development process that we know takes a minimum amount of time. Depending on your custom requirements, there is no estimate that fits all projects. As a guideline, don’t expect to get an Ionic hybrid app developed in less than 8 weeks, or a React Native hybrid app developed in less than 12 weeks. If you need native, that will be a minimum of 16 weeks per app required.

  • Will my app work on Apple and Android phones?

Of course, if you need. It depends on your approach. Have a look at the previous questions to help understand the difference between native vs hybrid. If you need one app that works across all phones, then go hybrid. If you need an app that works specifically on Apple or Android, go native.

  • Will you manage submission to the app store?

Yes. We offer the full service, all we need from you is your vision. We’ll submit your apps to all of the app stores and manage the full process of dealing with compliance and verification with Apple and Android. Just tell us what you want.

  • What is UX Design?

UX, or User Experience came about quite some time ago and was coined by a man named Don Norman while working at Apple. Don Norman explains that UX is about the entire experience that the user has when using a product or service. This could be the user experience when dealing with customer service, when opening a package/box, using an app on your phone or buying a product online.

    • Does the experience feel smooth and intuitive or clunky and confusing?
    • Does the experience feel logical or does it feel arbitrary?
    • Does the interactions give you the sense that they’re efficiently accomplishing the tasks they set out to achieve or does it feel like a struggle?
  • What UX process do you follow?

We follow a strict UX process which consists of user research and insights, user personas, user journeys, wireframing, design and prototyping, testing and then front-end development.

  • How much input will I have over the design?

You will be given access to your design visuals via Figma. This will enable you to review the designs and provide feedback/input at every stage of the UX design process.

  • Can I view the visuals during the design process?

Yes, we use Figma and will provide you with access to the visuals so that you can review them at every step of the UX design process. Some clients prefer to receive PDFs, if that’s you then let us know!
